Deep dive into Fall.

If Tropical House was the sound of the Summer, Deep House is definitely the “it” sound this Fall. While the genre originated back in the 1980s in Chicago, it’s having quite the renaissance with artists like the UK’s Disclosure, Gorgon City and Duke Dumont reinventing the sound for our generation and bringing it to the masses. Deep House has a much more low-key, melodic feel compared to the more intense Electro House genre (think: Zedd, The Chainsmokers, Swedish House Mafia). It’s vibey-er, loungey-er and is most often accompanied by soulful vocals – perfect for the desk or the dance floor.

Even the Electro producers are coming out with mellower sounding tracks these days. But in my opinion, the coolest thing about the revival of Deep House is that it’s got slightly more of a party feel to it – allowing the genre to enter the limelight rather than just be what the warm-up DJ plays. TCTS – Games ft. KStewart, Moko – Your Love and the Griffyn & Hotel Garuda remix of Banks – Beggin’ For Thread are perfect examples in this week’s Lineup of why I’m loving on this style of music right now. (Spoiler Alert: so is the Mix of the Week). You’ll also find some Deep House in Lineup #1.5, Lineup #2, Lineup #5.

Thanks for letting me geek out, and thanks to JMS, AT and RT for some inspiration this week.

Also, you should know how many times I’ve played Susanne Sundfør – Fade Away. But it’s an embarrassing amount so I’m not going to tell you.

Definitely throw your headphones on for this weeks Lineup, I promise you it’s better that way.

Until next Monday.

Mix of the Week:

Annie Mac’s Mini Mix: TCTS
For those of you unfamiliar with Annie Mac, she’s a famous BBC Radio 1 host. As part of her Friday night show, she has various DJs do Mini Mixes – basically an entire DJ set shrunk into 5 minutes. Packing 18 or so songs into 5 minutes is not an easy feat, and a solid Mini Mix is generally the sign of a really great DJ. TCTS is no exception to this rule. If you aren’t yet hooked on the Deep House sound like I am, this should do the trick.
