It’s that time of the year again! Say what you wish about Coachella, but in my opinion there’s no better place to spend a 3 day music festival than in the beautiful California desert with endless sunshine that turns into perfect evening warmth every night. I have an unabashed love for Coachella, and I cannot wait to see so many TML favorites take the stage this weekend.
There’s probably upwards of 100 artists I’d be excited to see, but with great festival lineups come even more heart wrenching scheduling conflicts. Just like Lineup #82 which was 4 hours upon initial creation, some artists will sadly have to get the axe. I’ll be waiting with baited breath for the set times to be released, and in the meantime listening to this week’s Lineup heavy rotation.
Lineup #82 is a sampling of great tracks from bands who will be taking over the desert for the next 2 weekends. And in the off chance you want to read more about who I’m most highly anticipating, see below.
Despacio is a really big deal. While this article will do a better job explaining Despacio than I ever will, it’s a 50,000-watt sound system that is unlike any other sound machine in the world. Despacio’s appearance at Coachella will be it’s first outside of Europe, and creators James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem and the Dewaele Brothers (of Soulwax and 2manydjs – see below) will be spinning on this vinyl-only sound system every night. At full power Despacio can literally make your ears bleed, but at perfect balance it has been known to literally bring people to tears. I will 99.9% be one of those people.
In 2009 (or maybe was it 2010? whatever), ES sent me this video of 2manydjs’ live set at HARD Halloween and I’ve been patiently waiting to see them since that day. To me, 2manydjs embody what the art of DJing is all about – seamlessly and beautifully mixing together tracks from all across the board into a genre spanning set full of twist, turns and surprises. Plus, these guys also visually mix the music together using album art and have some of the best music taste in the game. Swoon.
Guns N’ Roses
I was raised a New England Patriots fan, and thus raised on Guns N’ Roses. I mean, this goes deep. My Dad and sister danced to a cover of “Sweet Child O’ Mine” at her wedding. Sure, there’s been lots of controversy and speculation leading up to their reunion tour, and sure, Axl Rose may have a broken foot, but I’m preeeeetttty pumped to play some serious air guitar during GNR’s set on Saturday night.
I stumbled upon Anderson .Paak’s “Come Down” serendipitously one week when I was reading Stereogum and happened to press play. I was immediately hooked, and was thrilled to discover he had just released his Sophomore album Malibu. Which I then proceeded to listen to 1000x. He’s a combination Kendrick-Frank-Miguel with gospel and jazz influences who is also a very awesome human. So yah, he’s the sh*t.
I’ve been obsessed with Sia since LH first played her for me Freshman year of college, and she’s been my main girl through thick and thin ever since. Known for her lack of touring, I had been waiting 9 years to see her sing live until RT hooked it up with last minute passes to SNL the week of her musical guest appearance. Let’s just say 2 songs was not enough. As far as female vocalists go, there are very few that can top Sia in my book.
But then again, most of the best moments at Coachella come when you least expect them. And I can’t wait.

Until next Monday.
